Welcome to Anime-OtakuZone! This blog will be all about anime and that includes anime reviews.
My first anime review will be about the mystery, horror anime, Another.
Plot:
In 1972, Misaki, a popular student of Yomiyama North Middle School's class 3-3, suddenly died partway through the school year. Devastated by the unexpected loss, the students and teachers behaved like Misaki was still alive, leading to a strange presence on the graduation photo. In Spring 1998, 15-year-old Kōichi Sakakibara transfers into Yomiyama's class 3-3, where he meets Mei Misaki, a strange student whom their classmates and teachers seemingly ignore. The class is soon caught up in a strange phenomenon, which somehow leads the students and their relatives die in mysterious, gruesome ways. Realizing that these deaths are related to the "Misaki of 1972", it is up to Kōichi and Mei to discover the cause of these mysterious deaths and figure out how to stop it before it kills them.
Story: 8 out of 10
I think the story's great since I really love mystery anime's although there are some anime's or any show that have a similar plot to Another which consists of a curse and a lot of people being killed by it.
What makes it unique is the curse itself and the story of the school.
Animation: 9 out of 10
I love the animation! PA Works did a great job on it considering the fact they also made Hanasaku Iroha, another anime I watch.
Characters: 6 out of 10
The characters are great although the minor characters looked like as if they were there so they could be killed by the curse. There was only a few details we know on some of the characters. The interesting character out of all the characters in Another would be Mei Misaki, the female protagonist.
Here are some of the characters in Another:
Koichi Sakakibara (Male Protagonist)
Kouichi is a 15 year old boy who is a transfer student from Tokyo. In Yomiyama he lives with his grandparents and his aunt, Reiko as his father works in India, he no longer has a mother as she died shortly after giving birth to Kouichi. Kouichi has a great curiosity to the events 26 years ago that made the class such as beset the fear of death.
He has a very curious personality and is determined to find out what happened 26 years before the main storyline. He and Mei became friends in later episodes, after the class decided to treat Kouichi as if he doesn't exist as well. He used to love running, something he was forced to give up after being diagnosed with Pneumothorax. Also, he is very friendly and sociable, making new friends since his first day at Yomiyama North Middle School. Kouichi is very determined and decided to resolve the mystery of the 9th grade class. He wants nothing more than to find out who the dead person is and stop the calamity. He is usually serious, but also funny when the moment calls for it.
Mei Misaki (Female Protagonist)
Mei is a beautiful and isolated girl in Yomiyama North Middle School's Class 3-3. She had a disease when she was about 4 years old so severe that she lost her left eye. Her mother made her a new green eye saying that the same shade would be boring. The reason she uses an eyepatch is because she dislikes that dual shade and hence decided to hide it. Her left eye can see the color of death.
Mei possesses a very quiet and solitary personality at first, telling Kouichi to stay away from her, but as time goes on, she becomes accustomed to his presence and doesn't seem to mind having him around. She also tells him to be careful, since 'it' (the curse) may have started already, indicating concern. Her hobby is drawing, and she is a member of the art club. Mei also dislikes cell phones, saying it disturbs her to be connected to other people at all times by electromagnetic waves.
Izumi Akazawa
Izumi is the straightforward, unabashed and strong leader of the Countermeasures at Yomiyama Middle School's 3rd year class. She has a bit of a tsundere personality. Izumi is impulsive and irascible, even though she puts on a show of being tough she is actually rather fragile and can be shown to have a tender side. She seems to hate Mei and even goes as far as to blame her for the deaths of the students. She also seems to dislike Kouichi, until it was revealed near the end that she was fond of him.
She also is the head of countermeasures and later on becomes the Class Officer of Class 3-3 of 1998 atYomiyama North Middle School. She is in the drama club with Aya Ayano and Yumi Ogura. She has an older brother named Kazuma Akazawa.
Naoya Teshigawara
Teshigawara is usually superficial in nature. He is shown to have a sympathetic side, since he was the first one to talk to Kouichi, who was still not used to his surroundings. Naoya is very sociable, cheerful, energetic and is a sports lover. Teshigawara is a childhood friend of Kazami and a good friend of Yuuya, and in good terms with Kouichi. He cares about his friends. Naoya doesn't learn much at school, claiming that he doesn't know how he reached the 9th grade. Naoya is optimistic and always careless and carefree.
He is the class mood maker. Also he seems to have a crush on Izumi Akazawa.
Yuuya Mochizuki
He is calm, innocent, patient, and usually quiet around strangers, but cheerful and sociable around his friends. Mochizuki is good friends with Naoya Teshigawara and becomes Sakakibara's first friend from Yomiyama North Middle School. Also, Mochizuki was in good terms withIkuo Takabayashi before he died.
He is one of the older members of the art club. Yuuya has an older half sister named Tomoka .
All in all I rate this anime 7 out of 10!
I love the story so much and i love the mystery too! Although there are a lot of gruesome deaths in the anime so if you don't like seeing a lot of blood, and brutal deaths I suggest you cover your eyes in those parts or don't watch it at all.
Do I recommend it? Yes! If you love mysteries then this anime will do, it will make your brain think who is the dead one and how the curse is being triggered. I also recommend it to those who love horror, even though it's not really horror I think this is fine.
